Agavochelon (Genus) – ‘Mutatus’ (Species)
A mutant species first discovered in the arid regions of northern Mexico after the war. It is presumed to have emerged from a mutation within a radiation-contaminated lineage of Agave (plant) fusing with a chelonian (turtle/tortoise) species.
It features a rosette-shaped head and arms.
The exact reason remains unknown, but this appears to be a form of "Adaptive Texture Matching," a type of ultra-close-range mimicry usually observed in insects.
Layers of structures overlap like agave leaves, and the thorns at the tips of these leaves have transformed into a shell-like structure, making them extremely hard and durable.
The creature possesses an exceptionally high capacity for water retention, allowing it to survive for several months without water. In dangerous situations, it can retract its body to perfectly camouflage itself as an ordinary agave plant. The deep groove on the upper part of its plastron (ventral shell) is presumed to have evolved specifically for this camouflage.
It is currently classified as a rare species with high-visibility defensive capabilities and robust durability.
